In 2011/12 the Government launched its Pupil Premium Grant.
The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement.
This funding is sent to schools based on the numbers of pupils in the school who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) those looked after by the local authority (CLA) and the children of armed service personnel.
From 2012/13, it has been expanded to include all children who have been eligible for FSM within the last 6 years.
The funding is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full potential both academically and socially.
